What You Need to Know
Dental X-rays are a standard diagnostic tool and are fully HSA-eligible. Whether your dentist orders bitewing X-rays during a routine checkup, a panoramic X-ray to evaluate wisdom teeth, or a periapical X-ray to diagnose a specific tooth problem, the cost qualifies. Most dental offices include X-rays as part of the exam fee, but if they are billed separately, you can pay for them directly with your HSA card. Digital and traditional film X-rays both qualify.
What Qualifies
- ●Bitewing X-rays (standard during routine checkups)
- ●Panoramic X-rays (full mouth, often used for orthodontic or surgical planning)
- ●Periapical X-rays (focused on a specific tooth and root)
- ●Cone beam CT scans (3D dental imaging for implant planning or complex cases)
- ●Digital and traditional film X-rays both qualify
- ●X-rays billed separately or as part of a dental exam both qualify
