What You Need to Know
Massage therapy sits in a gray area for HSA eligibility. If a licensed physician prescribes massage therapy to treat a diagnosed medical condition (such as chronic pain, injury recovery, or a musculoskeletal disorder), it qualifies. However, massage for general relaxation or stress relief does not qualify. You will need a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) from your doctor to use HSA funds for massage.
