Store doctor's letters, EOBs, and prescriptions

Some HSA expenses need more than a receipt. A gym membership or massage only counts with a Letter of Medical Necessity from your doctor. Tripl stores those letters, plus EOBs and prescriptions, right next to your receipts.

Most expenses need nothing extra. A receipt is enough. Documents are for the handful that need more backup.

Adding a document

Two ways:

  • From an expense. Open the expense, find the Supporting documents section, and attach a file or snap a photo.
  • From the library. Open Documents (on the dashboard or in Settings on mobile) and tap Add. You can link expenses later.

PDF, JPG, PNG, or HEIC. 4 MB max per file.

One letter, many expenses

A Letter of Medical Necessity usually covers a whole year of a recurring expense. Attach the letter once, then link it to every gym payment or massage visit it covers.

Tripl fills in a 12-month validity window from the issue date. You can edit it to match your letter.

Expiry tracking

Letters expire. Tripl warns you 30 days before a letter runs out. It also flags any linked expense that falls outside the letter's dates. When your doctor renews the letter, upload the new one.

Where documents show up

  • Tax report: a Supporting Documents section lists each letter with the expenses it covers. The files are included in the appendix.
  • Exports: your CSV gets a Supporting Documents column, and the receipts ZIP includes a documents folder.
  • Cloud backup: if you connect Google Drive or Dropbox, documents mirror there too.

Privacy

Documents can name a diagnosis, so Tripl treats them carefully. They are never sent to AI. They are stored as-is, and only you can see them. Deleting a document removes the file.

Common questions

What is a Letter of Medical Necessity?

A note from your doctor saying a product or service treats a specific medical condition. It is what a gym membership or massage typically needs to count as HSA-eligible.

Do I need a document for every expense?

No. Most expenses only need a receipt. Documents are for expenses that are only eligible with extra proof, like a gym membership with a doctor's letter.

Are my documents sent to AI like receipts are?

No. Receipt parsing is optional AI. Documents never go to AI at all. You type the details yourself, and the file is stored untouched.
